Thrifty Threads: Peter Som for Kohl’s Meets Vintage

Thrifty Threads 365 is a fashion challenge where I will only thrift shop for an entire year. I’ll show you how it’s easy and wallet friendly to satisfy your style needs with secondhand finds. For full details, check the original post here
I remember checking out the Peter Som DesignNation for Kohl’s line last year and I was smitten. The easy, breezy look {Som says the line was inspired by St. Barths!} was just my style and there was a white moto jacket I had to have.
Fast forward months later and the line is finally available. I don’t have the moto jacket, but Kohl’s was awesome enough to send over a few pieces from the line. And once again, I’m in love. While I prefer a sweet frock or black skinny jeans, I was amazed to find I fell in love with the Peter Som printed pants and I got my moto fix with an asymmetrical zipper vest.
Being the thrifty gal I am, I mixed in my secondhand finds with the new gear. My vintage leather jacket from the Salvation Army coat sale is my go-to for a brisk spring day. I also incorporated finds from Housing Works Buy the Bag, including a v-neck top and bright red leather purse. Since my overall look was pretty neutral {black, white and beige}, the purse and necklace {from Housing Works’ Fashion for Action} added a few hints of color.
I’m all about clothes that work for multiple occasions and that’s just what these pants are. Besides the fun palm leaf and pineapple print, the material is so soft and wrinkle free…perfect for rolling up in your carry-on for any spring or summer travel. Also, the elastic cuff makes them great for showing off some footwear, whether you’re rocking t-strap sandals or open toe booties {mine are Nine West, scored last year during a clearance sale}.
Though this look was so laid back and heavy on the neutrals, all you really need is a few details to make any look pop. Printed pant. A little bit of texture. A dash of color. You’ll be ready to turn any sidewalk into your private runway.
The Peter Som DesignNation collection is in stores and online and also includes lightweight maxis, printed dresses and day-to-night pants.
