Thrifty Threads: How to Wear Tulle Like an Adult

It’s no secret that I love anything fun, flirty and feminine. But the tricky part about wearing a super feminine piece, particularly tulle, is making sure you don’t look like a four year old playing dress up. So when Kohl’s sent over this LC Lauren Conrad Tulle Maxi Skirt {available mid November}, I had two thoughts. 1. I’m in love!!!! 2. What am I going to wear it with?!
It was actually quite easy to style this piece. I just whipped out a few wardrobe staples {blouse, chic earrings, bold purse} and a nice layering piece like a vest. And of course, everything was thrifted for just a few bucks.
Even when I wear a new item, I inevitably end up wearing it with other new-to-me pieces {i.e. thrift store finds}. I love the Salvation Army on 46th Street because they always have awesome button down blouses. From vintage to designer and just overall quirky like my Pac Man top, you can always find something for less than 5 buck. And I’ve had my faux fur vest for so long, I don’t ever remember which thrift store I bought it from. It’s a great layering piece and it even has pockets. And to add a major dash of color, I grabbed my fire engine red purse I scooped up on my last haul from Housing Works Buy the Bag.
Eventually I took the vest off and put my purse down. And yes, I know you can see my bra.
The skirt is such a head turner, so I kept the accessories pretty simple, including my thrifted clip on earrings and $3 necklace from a random shop in midtown. Seriously, the photo does this necklace no justice. I always have people compliment me on it and I love telling them it only set me back $3.
Skirt: Kohl’s {similar style here} // Earrings and Shirt: thrifted from Salvation Army // Faux Fur Vest: thrifted {similar style here} // Necklace: NYC shop // Purse: thrifted from Housing Works Buy the Bag // Lipstick: Vixen by Youngblood
The movement of this tulle skirt makes it perfect for twirling all night.
