Thrifty Threads: Day at the Zoo

I think I dress pretty casually but my family always says I’m overdressed. Maybe it’s my love of skirts or my obsession with stilettos, but I’m the resident diva in the fam and this Memorial Day weekend was no exception.

My cousin, his wife and their three little girls came from Ohio for a visit and we took a quick trip to Van Saun Park in Paramus, NJ. I used to go to this park/zoo as a kid so it was nice to see my younger cousins experience it.

I threw on what I thought was a laid back, day at the zoo appropriate attire but my look was met with “you’re wearing that? We’re just going to the zoo!”

Humph, whatever. It was almost 90 degrees so I opted for a loose fitting dress and added on some accessories.

Though everyone thought I was overdressed, I was super comfortable in an airy mini and low espadrilles. I even got close to the stinky donkeys.

Even the animals were exhausted from the heat.

Week 38 of my Thrifty Threads 365 challenge (a full year where I only buy second-hand clothing) is down. Only 14 more weeks to go!

The little ones enjoyed their day at the zoo!

I think the youngest one is the true diva of the family.

  1. Definitely not too overdressed. I love it! The wedges have a beachy, relaxed feel so it’s cool. Your cousin’s too cute 🙂

  2. I love your outfit! I don’t think it’s overdressed. If your fam prefers tees and jeans for zoo outings then I can see why they would think you’re overdressed. My fam doesn’t understand my love of red lipstick. Great that we have friends who understand…lol.

    • Haha, thanks Danielle. Gotta love fashionable friends who get your sense of style.
Oh, and my fam hates anything other than a nude lip 🙁

  3. don’t think I’ve ever been to the zoo & would have no idea what to wear, lol! Love that dress/hat/bag combo though…looks casual & comfortable

  4. Cute outfit, not to mention a practical option in the sweltering heat!   I’d definitely wear a dress to the zoo, though I’d probably stay away from white!

    • Thanks! Hmm, yeah, white may not have been the best choice. Luckily I didn’t get it stained 🙂

  5. that is a super cute look really loving the fedora too. by the way you’re hair looks really cute too
