Thrifty Threads: Cropped Top & Cheap Vintage

I’ve never been a fan of cropped tops. I mean, they’re cute and everything but I always felt a little weird about exposing my stomach. However, when I found an adorable one at the Housing Works Buy the Bag sale, I knew it had to come home with me. Since I’m not fully ready to show the world my belly button, I paired the top with a high waist skirt, also from Housing Works, where I walked away with clothing for 35 cents a piece.

I normally don’t like skirts this length {it’s a few inches shy of being a maxi} but how could I ignore that pattern and built in belted waist. Gorgeous!

My cousin pointed out the tag was still on the skirt. Originally $145, I purchased it for less than $1.  The skirt is from No 6. Store, a vintage shop in NYC. Um, vintage for 35 cents? Definite thrift store score.

My accessories were simple and clean: envelope clutch, also from the Housing Works sale and my beloved elephant ring I found while thrift shopping in LA. And the earrings were borrowed.

The heels are Michael Kors {a gift} and if you follow me on Twitter, you know they broke as I was walking to the train. Womp womp!

So my head to toe outfit only set me back by $2!

Breakdown:
Shirt, Skirt, Purse, Ring: thrifted // Earrings: borrowed // Shoes: gifted

Week 49 of my Thrifty Threads 365 challenge {a full year where I only buy second-hand clothing} is down. Only 3 more weeks to go!

Thrift Tip: The great thing about thrifting is you can try out trends or pieces you may have been skeptical of wearing and if it doesn’t work for you, no worries, you didn’t drop a ton of cash. My style has evolved so much since thrift shopping because I’ve had the courage to try new things.

[…] One look I really love is adding a crop top over a maxi dress. I actually wore this in a recent Thrifty Threads style post. If you want to get in on the crop top trend without exposing any skin, this is how you do it! […]
