Thrifty Threads: Must Have Convertible Winter Tights & Leggings

Thrifty Threads 365 is a fashion challenge where I will only thrift shop for an entire year. I’ll show you how it’s easy and wallet friendly to satisfy your style needs with secondhand finds. For full details, check the original post here.

As much as I love leggings, I tend to have the same dilemma every winter. Where are my tights? I mean, leggings are great when you want to pair them with an oversized shirt and some flats or boots, but what about tights on those cold days you want to wear a dress and heels?
So needless to say I was super excited when I heard about L’eggs Convert-a-Tight. With a simple slip of a flap of material, they go from tights to footless leggings in a matter of seconds.
Of course I had to pair them with a few of my favorite thrift store finds and my favorite coat for a warm and cozy winter look.

My entire outfit {shirt, dress and shoes} is thrifted and totaled less than $5. The printed dress was actually a frock I bought for a segment I was styling for The Nate Berkus Show and the shirt and Dolce & Gabbana t-strap heels are from Housing Works Buy the Bag {$25/bag of clothes}. But the coat is my favorite Loehmann’s purchase, an Ellen Tracy cape I’ve had for 3+ years. It gets heavy rotation in my closet and makes a major statement.
I’m not a huge fan of the color purple, but I figured I’d go for a semi-monochromatic look with the dress, shoes and a bold Apt. 9 bib necklace from Kohl’s. To tone the look down a bit, I layered a neutral v-neck shirt over the dress. And the black L’eggs tights added much needed warmth!
Like I mentioned, the tights convert to footless leggings, so when I want a more casual look, I just lift the flap {there’s an opening at the foot of the tights} and wear them footless with a pair of slip-on sneakers {studded faux snakeskin sneakers from ShoeDazzle!}.
The great thing about these L’eggs Convert-a-Tights {besides the $10 price tag!} is that they work for all seasons and every variety of footwear.
