Thrifty Threads 365 Update

It’s been six months since I started my Thrifty Threads 365 challenge. During the year long project, I can’t purchase any new clothing, everything has to be thrifted. The only items I can purchase are underwear and I can accept gifts of clothing and/or gift cards {Christmas, birthday, etc}.

Since I’m at the halfway mark, I wanted to update you guys on my progress.

The challenge has been pretty easy so far. I haven’t been tempted to shop, but that’s mostly because I don’t go to shopping malls. Accessories are my weakness so shoe stores makes me sad, as I know I can’t buy anything.

Over six months I’ve spent about $500-$600. That’s not a lot considering the tons of items I’ve scored, like fur coats, designer dresses, vintage duds and more {check out some of my thrift store hauls here}, but I definitely need to cut back.  Besides the fact I’m running out of space in my studio apartment, I just want to save even more money. Like I said, $600 isn’t a lot {for most people} but I know I can save even more during my shopping hiatus.

So, going forward I’m limiting my thrifting to either once a month or to one item per trip. I have a ton of basic pieces but I’ll only drop cash on something that truly stands out and will be an asset to my existing wardrobe.

A few of you have emailed me or commented that you’re joining the Thrifty Threads challenge. Everyone didn’t commit to a year {which is fine} but if you did join, let me know how it’s going for you!
