If you need to know one thing about me {besides my love of thrifting}, it's that I hate the heat. Like, I seriously hate it unless there's a nearby body of water for me to cool off in. And unfortunately for me, it's been pretty hot in NYC and pretty much throughout the country. One morning the Weather Channel described the temps as "dangerous and oppressive." Geez!

On days when you're practically sweating before you even step foot out of the door, what to wear can be a serious dilemma. I knew I'd be out all day last weekend at the Brooklyn Flea market and then I was heading straight to my homie Danielle's {i.e. The Style & Beauty Doctor} Tweet Your Face Off party, so I wanted a look that was comfortable but still cute of course.

I think I dress pretty casually but my family always says I'm overdressed. Maybe it's my love of skirts or my obsession with stilettos, but I'm the resident diva in the fam and this Memorial Day weekend was no exception.

My cousin, his wife and their three little girls came from Ohio for a visit and we took a quick trip to Van Saun Park in Paramus, NJ. I used to go to this park/zoo as a kid so it was nice to see my younger cousins experience it.I threw on what I thought was a laid back, day at the zoo appropriate attire but my look was met with "you're wearing that? We're just going to the zoo!"Humph, whatever. It was almost 90 degrees so I opted for a loose fitting dress and added on some accessories.

Spring has finally reared her head in NYC and I'm loving it. The past week we've seen temps in the upper 60s, 70s and I've taken the opportunity to put away my tights and show some leg.

I tend to plan an outfit around one item {statement shoes, a dress, bold top, etc} and I knew I wanted to rock a cute skirt. I'm normally not a fan of velvet, but I found a number from the Salvation Army that I couldn't refuse. The satin and velvet embroidered beauty is simply divine.

Yesterday I gave you guys a sneak peek at the ruffled dress I wore to a taping of Oprah's post Oscars show in Los Angeles. Well, here's how I rocked a head to toe thrifted outfit. It was unusually chilly in LA for the few days I was there so I layered a cardigan over the dress to keep the chill away while we were in the Kodak Theatre and I threw on an asymmetrical leather jacket as we were waiting outside {in the cold} for about an hour before heading to the theatre.
