It happened gradually. Well, gradually as in a year or two. First it was a snug fit here. Then a ripped zipper there. I was gaining weight. Before I get into this post, I want to make a few things clear: gaining weight isn't a horrible thing. I'm also not fishing for compliments. But this post is about something real. A question that many women can face. How do you dress when you find yourself suddenly gaining weight and feeling less than comfortable in your existing clothes?I can honestly answer that because it's been happening to me for the past year or so. Again, I'm not seeking anyone to tell me, "Patrice, what are you talking about, you look great!!!" or "girl, stop. You're only a size 8."This has nothing to do with size but more so how to dress your body when your body starts to change. And as I've noticed the number on the scale creep up a bit {I don't even own an actual scale, I just step on one at Target when I'm there shopping for other stuff!} due to age but also horrible habits I've developed, I can tell you one thing.Looking Fly on a Dime - Dressing for Weight Gain

It's been forever since I did a thrift store haul. Like seriously, for-eva! That's because I've been busy, but more importantly, I stopped thrifting for a while. After doing my mega closet clean out and purge, I became insanely picky about what I'd buy and add to my closet. That's a good thing! But once I felt the need to shop {versus simply wanting to!}, I hit up L Train Vintage in Brooklyn and found tons of goods. So of course I had to make a video dedicated to everything I found...including the most awesome vintage jacket I'm officially obsessed with.Looking Fly on a Dime thrift store haul, styled mom jeans and crop top

I've made a lot of fashion mistakes along the way. From wearing flesh-tone leggings {eek!} to buying thrifted clothes just because they were cheap {I'm sure I've wasted hundreds buying tons of cheap stuff}. Luckily, I have a blog and Instagram where I can look back and think, "Patrice, why did you buy/wear that!!!??"And one thing I noticed repeatedly was that I didn't have a proper ratio of classics to trends. Once you reach a certain age, for some people that's 30 years old, you should have fashion staples or classics that can be worn for years to come. That doesn't mean you have to spend a ton, but there should be a solid foundation. Remember when I did that massive closet purge and clean out and got rid of a fourth of my wardrobe? That's because I didn't follow the 80/20 fashion ratio.looking-fly-on-a-dime-fashion-ratio-vintage-dress

looking-fly-on-a-dime-how-to-wear-over-the-knee-bootsThe year is over. Seriously, how did this happen so quickly!? While I'm recapping my highs and lows of 2016, I can't help but flashback to my fashion choices. And I can honestly say I wore some fun, fashionable and fly pieces. But I also learned a few great lessons. After doing a massive closet purge last year {I donated a fourth of my wardrobe!}, 2016 taught me a lot about my personal style.

I'm pretty obsessed with over the knee boots. Well, just one pair in particular...because I only have a single pair of the boots but every fall I can't wait to whip them out of storage.
Over the knee boots can feel a bit over the top and vampy but depending on how you style them, they perfect for so many occasions and I'm convinced every woman needs a pair. Here's how to style over the knee boots with ease.
