Fab Under $50: Velvet

Posted On Monday, November 29th, 2010

I know what you’re thinking. Velvet, really!? But the super soft fabric is seeing a resurgence. As evidenced by the ladies above {Kim Kardashian’s leggings, Fergie’s blazer and Blake Lively’s pumps}, the material can be quite ladylike without looking clownish. As with any trend, you don’t want to rock it from head to toe.

Hues vary from figure flattering black to rich jewel tones. A blazer pairs well with dark denim or leggings can be paired with a flowy top. If you prefer to wear the trend in a more subtle way, accessories are the way to go. Velvet platforms can jazz up an A-line skirt or bundle up with a super luxe scarf.

If you want to get with the velvet trend, check out the options below, all below $50.

Fab Under $100: Over the Knee Boots

Posted On Monday, November 8th, 2010

Over the knee boots were huge last fall and winter and that hasn’t changed a year later. They come in a variety of styles: animal print, bold hues, suede, leather, you name it.

And they’re pretty versatile. You can go for a sexy look by pairing an OTK with a mindress and some tights or a pair of skinny jeans. If you want to keep the look for casual, go for a boot with a flat heel.

Though I’ve heard some style experts say petite women should stay away from this style {they can swallow our frame and we run the risk of looking like Puss in Boots!}, I say go for it. If you find a pair that works for you, why not?

An over the knee boot can be a bit expensive, but check out the options below, all under $100.

Fab Under $50: Faux Fur Vests

Posted On Monday, November 1st, 2010

Fur can be a hot topic. You either love it or find it deplorable. Or maybe you’re like me and are somewhere in the middle.

If you’re the kind of gal who likes fur, one of the crave worthy items of the season is the fur vest. The real deal can easily run in the hundreds. Faux is the way to go if you want to be animal friendly and/or your funds are a bit low.

Though I used to think of Mr. Burns from The Simpsons whenever the thought of a fur vest came up, working this piece in to your wardrobe is pretty simple. You can wear one similar to how you’d rock your favorite cardigan. It’s great when paired with skinny jeans and a fitted top. The belted vests also help to define your waist.

If you want to cozy up to the warm look of a faux fur vest, check out the options below, all under $50.

Cable knits are the must have material for fall. An oversized sweater is great paired with your favorite skinny jeans or tights. And a long sleeve cardigan is the perfect transitional piece for those days it’s a bit chilly but not quite cold enough for a jacket. Or make your mini skirt fall appropriate with a pair of cable knit tights.
