thrift shopping tips, how to style your thrift store clothes

Last week I showed you my massive Salvation Army thrift store haul and now it's time to put everything together. After you thrift an amazing piece, sometimes the next battle is, how do I wear it?
Well, whether your style is more glam or casual, it's as easy as 1, 2, 3 to rock your thrifted clothes and accessories in a way that's perfect for any occasion.

Housing Works is back at it again. You know I love their Buy the Bag sale {you can purchase an entire bag of clothing for just $25} but now the thrift store chain returns with their "Best of" sales. Formerly known as Previews, it's the annual event where clothing, furniture and artwork is just a fraction of the original cost. The already affordable pieces are marked down even more! Starting on August 30, each location will have a specific sale day.

Below are a few of my favorite Housing Works locations along with sale dates.SoHo {130 Crosby St.} This location isn't that big on square footage but it's packed full of high end shoes and dresses. Sale date: August 30, 5pm-8pm

Though I love national thrift stores like Goodwill and Salvation Army, I also love finding little boutiques in the city. I find these are the best places to discover unique finds and the crowds aren't as insane. After my Salvation Army thrift haul, I headed uptown to Finderz Keeperz Vintage Boutique {121 West 116th St}. I was amazed at this place. The store's super small but packs a major vintage punch. They've been in Harlem for five years, I've been in Harlem for three years and we're just now discovering one another. Such a shame but better late than never. The owners were extremely helpful and super friendly. If you're looking for something in particular, they'll be glad to pull it off the racks or check the back {where they have even more vintage finds!}.If you're a lover of sequins, then this is the place for you. Entire racks were devoted to sequin dresses, tops and cardigans.
