Thrifty Threads – Fashion Week Uniform

Posted On Friday, September 9th, 2011

Sigh, it’s Fashion Week in NYC. Although I have a style blog and my background is in fashion, I kinda sorta hate Fashion Week. There, I finally admitted it. But, I still have to attend some shows and events so the inevitable question becomes what to wear. I love a girly dress, but I tend to go casual chic during Fashion Week, especially when Fall gives us chilly, rainy weather.

Instead of an over the top outfit, I usually stick with one statement piece, typically a pair of heels.

Thrifty Threads – Leather Shorts

Posted On Friday, August 26th, 2011

Leather in the summer time? The two just didn’t seem to mix. However, I’ve been obsessed with leather shorts ever since my homie Danielle {aka The Style & Beauty Doctor} rocked a pair at a concert we went to last year. I’ve been on the look out for them at my fave thrift stores but never lucked up.

This week Loehmann’s invited me to an event and gave all bloggers in attendance a gift card. My Thrifty Threads 365 challenge only lets me wear new, non-thrifted clothing if it’s a gift. So I was excited when the first item I stumbled upon was a pair of leather shorts. Check out how I wore them along with my thrift store finds. And be sure to check back next week for more on what I found at the Loehmann’s event.

Thrifty Threads – Head to Toe Thrift

Posted On Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Since most of my wardrobe is thrifted, there are times when I rock a head to toe thrift store look. And that’s exactly what happened this week. I wanted a nice pop of color so I chose my red, sweetheart neckline dress I recently bought from the Salvation Army. After picking out my accessories, I realized the entire ensemble was courtesy of thrift stores {minus an adorable straw purse my cousin gave me a few months ago}.

Adventures in Thrifting – Recap

Posted On Monday, May 2nd, 2011

This weekend was the inaugural Adventures in Thrifting and we had a blast. I met up with four readers for a day of thrift shopping. We hit up the “Big Three” on East 23rd Street: Goodwill, Housing Works and Salvation Army. Here’s a peek at what I found.

We started at Goodwill where everything with a green tag was 50 percent off. I found a ton of goodies in less than 30 minutes.

These Nicole Miller peep toes had me at hello. Believe it or not I don’t have any red pumps, so I was hardcore crushing on these. They were only $12…but they were too big!

Look for Less: Jimmy Choo espadrille

Posted On Monday, March 14th, 2011

The espadrille is a classic shoe. The fiber sole screams spring and summer and steady base makes for easy walking. Pair it with everything from skinny jeans for a day of erranfs to your LBD for date night.

The Jimmy Choo Phyllis espadrille retails for $375 and is a great addition to any closet. The criss crossed patent leather straps keep your toes nice and snug while the braided platform gives a bit of a nautical feel.

If you’re not willing to drop close to 400 bucks, Steve Madden has you covered with a near identical look for less. The Genesis espadrille will only set you back $89.95. There are slight differences in the Madden version: platform height and width of the straps but other than that, it’s a great cheap chic alternative.
