Event Recap: Sip & Swap

Posted On Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

This past weekend I hosted a Sip & Swap with the ladies of O So Chic. If you were one of the ladies in attendance, then you know we had a great time and if you couldn’t join us, check out the recap.

We sipped on cocktails provided by Ciroc and swapped our gently used {but fab} clothes and accessories. Besides Ciroc, our other sponsors included Golden Krust BakeryHandbag HeavenHavaianasHappy Scarf and Housing Works. After swapping clothes for two hours, we still had a ton of clothes left over, but they all found a good home, as they were donated to Housing Works, which isn’t just a chain of thrift stores but an organization that supports those in NYC who are homeless and/or living with HIV/AIDS.

Whether the ladies were a size 2 or 12, they all walked out with at least one bag of clothes and accessories.

Looking Fly on a Dime, Black Blogger Month shoot

Last Friday, I had an amazing opportunity to participate in a video shoot for BlackEnterprise.com. This is the second year they’ve designated May as Black Blogger Month {check out last year’s coverage} and I was honored they wanted me to be a part of it, as well as shoot some footage for the video series. Every weekday a new blogger will be highlighted and they’ll share how they made it. I’m not sure what day I’ll be live on the Black Enterprise site, but of course I’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, check out what I wore. You already know I had to rock some thrifty, affordable threads. *Sorry for the crappy lighting, we filmed at the 40/40 club and they had the lights down when we weren’t filming*

Vision Board Party on a Dime

Posted On Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

Today I’m deviating from the normal budget fashion and thrift tips to tell you guys how I spent my weekend. My friends and I hosted a vision board party. I’m a serious believer in the power of words and positive thoughts so my girl Danielle, The Frugal Fatshionista, and I decided to get together with the girls for a night of sharing our future hopes and goals with one another.

And of course we had a great time without spending much cash. We set the scene at Danielle’s place. We had affordable eats {everyone brought something to snack on and some takeout from Domino’s} and items like plates, forks and even plastic wine glasses were from the dollar store. Seriously, the dollar store is my go-to place for party decorations and settings.

Behind the Scenes – My Nate Berkus Show Appearance

Posted On Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

A few weeks ago I let you guys in on my big news, I’ll be appearing on The Nate Berkus Show. Well, now I have an air date for the show: Thursday, September 15. So of course I hope you’ll tune in, tell a friend, tell your mama and set your DVR.

I can’t tell you how exciting and humbling it was to be a part of the show. Nate was as sweet {and cute!} as he appears on television and the team of producers and assistants were absolutely amazing to work with. Like seriously, I  didn’t encounter a single person who wasn’t a pleasure.

While you’re waiting for the show to air, check out behind the scenes pics snapped by my homie Danielle {aka The Style & Beauty Doctor}. She was on hand as my moral support, photographer, lipstick applier and all around calming spirit who kept me from freaking out at my first television appearance.
