September was a really great month for me. Besides releasing my thrift shopping book and celebrating my 5-year blogiversary, I had some amazing thrift store scores. I'm talking about vintage threads and designer duds for next to nothing.
Under my Thrifty Threads 365 challenge, I can only spend a total of $50 each month. How much was my September tally? Just $8. Yes, less than $10 for the 25 or so items I thrifted. Check out how I did it, my favorite picks and thrift outfits for September.

Housing Works Buy the Bag returns

One of the questions I frequently get is, "when does the Buy the Bag sale return?" If you're not familiar, the Housing Works Buy the Bag sale was held on weekends during the summer and you could purchase an entire bag of clothes and accessories for $25. Yup, whatever you could fit in a bag was yours for just $25.The scene was a bit hectic, but that's understandable when amazing secondhand goods are up for grabs. Housed in a large warehouse space, shoppers had to dig through bins for serious hidden treasures. During previous Buy the Bag sales I found hundreds, even thousands of dollars in clothing for just 25 bucks. Pieces ranged from Tracy Reese dresses, a Celine cardigan, Club Monaco skirts and even a pair of Chanel pumps.Normally the sales were in a warehouse on Saturday afternoons in the summer and early fall, but Housing Works Buy the Bag is back with a new location you can shop year round and throughout the week.

Housing Works Buy the bag, thrift store haul

This past Saturday was the Housing Works Buy the Bag {$25 for all you can stuff in a bag) sale and as usual, I racked up. I met a few of you there and it seems everyone walked away with a bag {or two} full of goodies. As usual, it was crowded inside, clothes were everywhere and the crowd got a bit rowdy when additional bins were put on the sales floor, but the majority of people were super sweet. I didn't take pics inside {I was too busy shopping}, but the clothes were eventually pulled out of the bins and everyone was walking over the garments and one woman even lost her shoe in the clothing avalanche.I managed to stuff a total of 30 items in my bag, so at $25 for a bag, that averages out to 83 cents per piece. Considering I found some vintage items, including Armani, I'd say that's a thrift store score. This sale always has a ton of blazers and I snagged with six of them. A bit excessive, I know.

vintage blazers, housing works sale

On Monday I gave you guys the rundown of last weekend's Housing Works $25 all you can stuff in a bag sale and now I'm showing off the goodies I nabbed. The warehouse was full of secondhand threads and I was able to fit 29 pieces of clothing in one bag. Though the bag normally costs $25, I took advantage of a Groupon deal so the price was only $10. If you break that down per item, the cost is less than 35 cents per piece!

Check out a few of my favorite finds from the Housing Works sale.

This weekend I did something a little different...I went thrifting on a weekend. I typically go during the week, on a day off or on my lunch break, so I can avoid massive crowds. But I was pleasantly surprised that the Salvation Army was practically empty. Well, not empty, there were about a dozen people. I normally visit the Salv {46th St. between 10th and 11th} on Wednesday when most clothing is 50 percent off, but on this Saturday visit, all blue ticket items were half off.I didn't have to deal with a crowd and I walked away with great items. Check out my finds: tons of color and a brand spankin' new pair of BCBG pants {originally $188 for less than 10 bucks!}.I love that the store now has a small rack designated for vintage finds.
