Salvation Army Coat Sale Returns

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. No, not the Housing Works Buy the Bag sale, that’s been put on hold until further notice. But it’s the return of the Salvation Army coat sale at the 46th Street location.
I first went to this sale two years ago and it’s become my go to sale for amazing outerwear. If you’re not familiar with the sale, they open up their donation and loading dock area and convert it into a space that’s full of jackets, coats and vests for everyone in the family. And they’ve even had a few purses and shoes for sale.
At the previous sales I attended, I walked away with everything from a leather jacket to a wool coat with faux fur collar. During one trip, I scored five coats for $36. Don’t believe me? Check out my last haul here.
The prices at this sale are definitely right. I’m not sure what the exact prices will be this year. Previously, the cost was based on material {fur, leather, wool, etc} and length {above or below the waist}.
The prices tend to get cheaper with each sale. So if you hold out for the last or second to last sale date, you’ll pay next to nothing.
{above: last year’s prices}
My biggest score last year was a DSquared parka for $2. The cashier thought it was a children’s coat, so I was only charged 2 bucks!
Details:
What: Salvation Army Warehouse Coat Sale
Where: 536 West 46th St
When: November 3, December 1 and January 5
*Doors open at 9am
As expected, the sale can get a bit crowded, so come packing patience and a snack and water. I’m dead serious about having a little something to eat in your bag. Shopping carts are limited so you’ll most likely be lugging around some heavy coats while you’re shopping. Bring a large bag {like one of those oversized Ikea ones} or a bag on wheels to throw your goods in while you’re browsing.
Even if you’re not in or near New York City for this sale, check with your local thrift stores, especially major chains like Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. Some of them have these mega warehouse sales {and don’t really advertise them!} where they unload a ton of merchandise at unbelievable prices.

I’m not sure if I’ll attend the upcoming Salvation Army coat sale{s}, since I have no space in my closet for bulky coats and I still have coats and jackets that I have yet to wear. But who am I kidding?! I know I’ll probably swing by. However, I’ll only buy something if it’s a major statement piece.

    Thanks for the head’s up! I’m over in San Francisco but I’ll have to see if any of the Salvation Army stores around here do that as well (fingers crossed)!!

    I’ve never heard of this type of sale, but I am going to see if my local store has one. Thank you!
