According to mint.com, some of the most frugaltastic (is that even a word?) cities are New York, Portland, L.A. and Indianapolis. Though Americans are cutting back on discretionary spending more than ever, New Yorkers still shell out close to $250 a month on clothing and Chicagoans drop $70 on books (though reading is fundamental, they need to make more visits to the local library).
If you aren’t up on Mint.com, you need to be in the know. It’s a website that makes budgeting super easy and shows you exactly where your money is being spent.
