Thrifty Threads: How to Wear Flare Jeans {It's a Flattering Style for All Body Types, Seriously!} Flare leg denim: I never thought I’d wear them. I mean, I’m only 5’2″ so I feared they’d overwhelm my frame. But I was so surprised at these NYDJ flare jeans. And instead of being unflattering, they’re actually super flattering!

If you’re on the fence about flare jeans, and especially if you need tips on how to wear them, read on.

First, if you follow me on Instagram then you’ve seen these jeans. To say that I wear them at least once a week is not an exaggeration. These NYDJ “Farrah” flares aren’t cheap, but in the two months since I’ve had them, I’ve already gotten my money’s worth. Also, these have awesome stretch and make your butt, hips and thighs looks their best.

Since the style of the jeans is high waisted, I paired them with a vintage wrap crop top. And my mirror lens sunglasses are also thrifted {seen in my most recent thrift haul video}.

It’s safe to say I’m obsessed with this cut of jeans. So exactly how do you wear flare jeans? Here are some tips that work for anyone, regardless of shape or height.
Heels:
I know flats are comfy, but skip them if you’re rocking flare denim. Go for a heel even if it’s just a few inches {like the wedges I’m wearing}. The hem of the jeans should just graze the ground and the front of your shoe should be visible {versus the jeans swallowing your shoes up}.
High Waisted:
Really want to maximize the lengthening effect of the jeans? Try a cut that’s high waisted. Your legs will thank you! Don’t believe me? Look at this side by side comparison of regular jeans compared to a high waisted cut.
Dark Wash:
If you’re concerned about your thighs looking bigger, choose a darker wash and/or a style that doesn’t have any distressing. Also, a dark blue or black pair of flare jeans can be more work appropriate for some offices.

I’m still a skinny jeans girl, but there’s no denying the flare has a new place in my heart. It’s always great to step out of your usual comfort zone and try something new. You just might fall in love!

What’s your favorite cut of jeans? Have you recently tried a “tricky trend”?
