Officially or unofficially, all black is the uniform for fall and winter. Even color enthusiasts like myself are trading in brightly hued clothes for more subdued palettes. All black outfits have two major benefits: they are universally slimming and are always chic. However, some looks can be a little too, well, basic or even come off as harsh.

In this week’s Cubicle Chic, I’ll show you how to easily wear all black in a minimal yet super stylish way.

All black can evoke a feminine Parisian vibe, especially with this lace top and trendy joggers. Finish off with silver and black hoops, a leather tote from Modcloth and suede pumps. The combination of fabrics {leather, lace and suede} and mix of shapes {the boxy blouse, relaxed pants and scalloped heel} definitely elevate the sophistication of this look.

If minimalism is your thing, try this outfit that has clean lines, simple fabrics and small unexpected details. Start off with a pair of trousers from Dorothy Perkins and add in a simple top and a long Topshop sweater for added movement. Keep the accessories simple yet dynamic: stud earrings, a small bag and boots with just a sliver of gold.

Lastly is the super easy, yet showstopper little black work dress we all need. This exposed zipper, vegan leather dress from River Island is that go-to piece that will last you all fall and winter. Combine fashion and function with opaque tights and studded French Connection flats {now 40% off!}. Round out the accessories with a bucket bag and drop earrings. This is an effortless option for those days when you don’t feel like getting dressed.

How do you wear all black to work? What fabric or details really make your outfit pop?
