Here's What Happened When BuzzFeed Asked Me to Style a Crop Top

If you follow me on Snapchat {PatriceJWill}, then you know a few weeks ago BuzzFeed asked me to style a crop top. Well, they asked me and nine other awesome ladies. The idea was to see how different women with different styles and body types rock the same piece.

And of course you know I had to mix in some thrifted and vintage pieces.

The item that we all styled was a black crop top from Rebdolls. I’d never worn the brand before but the sizing was true to fit {I’m a medium}.

Remember how I told you a duster is the must have transitional piece for fall and you can find one at any thrift shop? Well, I wore a duster/dress for the shoot! The same one I’ve been wearing all summer and will continue to wear throughout early fall.

My style philosophy explained to BuzzFeed: “I’d love to look like a bag of Skittles every day, but sometimes you just have to anchor your look with a neutral like this top. I try to dress the crazy things in my closet down with more basic stuff. It’s all about balance.”

As for the other items I chose, I went with a pair of vintage shorts from Indigo Style Vintage, thrifted belt and some pewter shoes I scored years ago from Nine West. The combo of the red dusters and orange shorts with the black top and blue belt can be a bit much, but why not live in color?!

This weekend I actually wore the shorts again for a night out. I wasn’t lying when I said I’ve happily started wearing the same clothes over and over.

You can check out the full BuzzFeed feature here and see how the rest of the ladies styled the crop top. Serious style inspiration!

Nice way to style a crop without showing any tummy!

      Thanks Kristie!

And I think all or at least most of the women didn’t show any skin when they styled the top. Crop tops really are so versatile!

          HI Carol,
Thanks so much for commenting and for being “young at heart.” I love it!

I never give style advice that’s specific to size or age, it’s really just general advice you can tailor for your particular needs.

          For example:
Maybe you don’t want to wear a crop top (like I did in this post), but you want to layer a shirt over a flowy top.

Or I showcase a lot of skinny jeans with heels and button down or fitted shirts, but if you’re not a fan of that cut of jeans, you can try a more relaxed fit but still rock the other components of the look.

It’s all about picking and choosing the colors, fit and cuts that are best for you. The tips I provide are just the blueprint to get you going and experimenting with your style 🙂
