The Tricky Fashion Week Trend You Can Thrift

New York Fashion Week came to a close yesterday and a few trends are already clear {crochet, fringe, tie dye}, but there’s one interesting, lounge-y style I came across last week at the Salvation Army and it was just seen on the runway. Lingerie!

Yup, pajamas and lingerie as outerwear is what’s trending for spring 2016, but you can get the trend now at your local thrift shop. Check out a few tips below, plus how to wear this tricky trend.

Last week I had two great days of thrift shopping {stay tuned for my thrift haul!} and if you follow me on Snapchat {PatriceJWill}, then you may have seen me debate buying a vintage robe. I didn’t want to wear it as a robe, I wanted to rock it as a top! I ended up buying the $6 garment and little did I know that I was right on trend.

Designers like Prabal Gurung, Thakoon and Jill Stuart featured laid back, silky dresses and tops that you might otherwise wear in the bedroom, but they’ll be what’s trending next season.

But how do you wear this lingerie trend and why? Well, it’s a fun look and like I mentioned, you can find these pieces at your local thrift shop.

A silky top can be worn under a blazer and with a chic pencil skirt or wide leg trousers. And a button down pajama shirt works well with dark denim and some pointy toe heels. The key is to really mix the lingerie or pajama element with non lounge-y pieces, so it doesn’t look like you stepped out of your bedroom and forgot to get dressed.

And again, check your local thrift stores if you want to give this trend a try. You’ll find a ton of modern and vintage robes, tops and more that you can experiment with. For the robe I purchased, I’ll most likely pair it with a statement belt {vs. the sash it came with}.

Would you ever try the lingerie trend? Have you seen any of these pieces at the thrift shop?

I love this look! Plain silk camis are so versatile. I love layering them with fine knit jumpers in the autumn.
