Thrifty Threads: How to Find Your Fashion Uniform & Why You Need One {or Two!}

How to Develop a Fashion Uniform & Why It Makes Getting Dressed So Much Easier

It’s always great to step out of your style comfort zone and try something new, but when you know what you like and what works for your body, there’s nothing wrong with sticking to what works.

That’s where the fashion uniform comes in. What’s a fashion uniform? Keep reading below to see what it is and how it can make getting dressed in the A.M. so much easier.

The term “uniform” can sound so stuffy, but it doesn’t have to be. A fashion uniform is simply a formula that works for you and represents your personal style {remember, it’s so important to define your personal style}. The uniform is something you don’t even have to think about, it’s like second nature and frees up your time so you can get out of the door quicker or just focus on more important things on your schedule for the day.

For example, I define my personal style as casual chic. I loooooove skinny jeans with a cute top and heels. So whenever I’m stuck on what to wear, I typically go for my skinnies. They’re always a good look for me and I feel super comfortable and confident in them. And because I work in a casual environment, I can also make them work for the office, like the Thrifty Threads post below with my distressed Denizen jeans and thrifted shirts.

Also, I love a dress. And when I want to go casual, I pair one with a cardigan and some flat boots and cute accessories, just like I did below with this Free People dress from TJ Maxx and a thrifted J. Crew long cardigan. The great thing about this formula is it’s easy to transition from day to night by swapping out the shoes and adding a few accessories.

And some seriously successful people maintain a fashion uniform. The late Steve Jobs always rocked that black turtleneck, jeans and New Balance sneakers. Mark Zuckerberg keeps it simple with his plain tees and President Obama sticks with his tried and true blue or grey suit.

Now that’s not to say you have to wear the same thing all the time {don’t take this too literally!}, but when you at least have one or two go-to combos, it makes life so much easier.

Start observing not just your individual pieces, but your outfits. Do you have an ensemble that if you could, you’d wear it every single day? And I’m not talking about your comfy pajamas, but an outfit that reps your style, is comfortable and works for your lifestyle. Find exactly what makes you feel amazing when you put it on. That’s a great place to start when determining your fashion uniform.

I promise you, once you’ve found your formula, it will make getting dressed so much easier and stress free in the morning.
