The Number One Reason You Need to Define Your Personal Style, ASAP

Here's the Major Reason You Should Define Your Personal Style

You may be noticing a theme on the blog over the past few weeks. Between How Cleaning Out Your Closet Can Benefit Your Personal Style to using a Thrift Wish List to help you shop more efficiently, it’s all about figuring out the clothes and accessories that work for you {your lifestyle, occupation, body shape, etc.}.

Developing your personal style is so important. If the posts above still haven’t convinced you you need to determine your personal style, there’s one reason to do so. It’s a major key!

You’re wasting your time buying clothes and accessories if you don’t know what your personal style is

Yup, I said it! Every ounce of style advice and searching for cheap chic finds and thrift store scores is pointless if you don’t know what direction you’re going in or the look you’re going for.

Late last year when I cleaned out the majority of my closet {and donated 20 bags to the thrift shop!}, I had a major revelation. I was suffering from a style identity crisis. Though my look is more casual chic, I had tons of pieces that were super edgy, overly dressy and just downright not wearable for my everyday life. Don’t get me wrong, we all need a few wow items, but I had a ton of wow and not enough pieces that reflected who I really am and the image I want to project style wise.

The Number One Reason You Need to Clearly Define Your Personal Style

Does your closet reflect your style? Seriously, revisit this post: How Cleaning Out Your Closet Can Help You Define Your Personal Style

But even if you don’t have to clean out your closet, take a look at what’s actually in your closet.

Besides asking do you actually wear what you own, do the pieces reflect the look you’re going for? If your style is more casual and you work in a relaxed environment, does the majority of your wardrobe fit that definition?

For example: if you’re a working mom of young children, your style might skew more towards functional gear and professional attire for work and maybe a few pops of glamour {if that’s your thing!}. I always say the crux of your wardrobe should be in line with your personal style with a few hints of trendy, wow pieces. A 70/30 ratio is pretty good.

[bctt tweet=”Have you defined your personal style? If not, you’re wasting money on shopping trips”]

Again, defining your style will guide the pieces you buy. Because otherwise you’re just shopping blindly and wasting cash in the process.

And stay tuned for another printable style guide that’s devoted to exactly how to figure out your personal style. I’m going to break it down step by step. So if you have specific questions, let me know!

How would you define your personal style? Does your wardrobe reflect the look you’re going for? Do you have specific questions about defining your style {I’ll answer them in the upcoming guide!}?

This is so right on! I am continuing to purge my closet of things I bought because I like them for whatever (fill in the blank) reason and VERY FEW of the things I buy have anything to do with my personal style. This is great advice as always!
