Budget Beauty: NYC IndividualEyes Custom Compact

I’m clueless when it comes to layering eyeshadows or how to create a smokey eye so I figured a compact that spells it out for you would be perfect. I purchased the NYC IndividualEyes Custom Compact a few weeks ago from my local drugstore for $4. The three different shades are meant to enhance your eye color: Union Square for brown eyes, Bryant Park for blue eyes and Central Park for green eyes. Since I’m a brown eyed girl, I went with Union Square.

The kits includes everything from primer, all over lid shadow, crease shadow, illuminator and a highlighter. The back of the package shows you which shadows to apply where. I was really impressed the compact came with a primer to keep shadow in place and from creasing.

I tried the NYC IndividualEyes Custom Compact out and…

Cons:

I wasn’t really feeling the colors. Though this compact was specifically for brown eyes, I don’t feel it did anything to enhance my eye color. The “all over lid” color seemed a bit chalky and ashy, which is never a good look, especially for darker skin. The purple (which is just meant for the crease) doesn’t look too bad on my hand but that bright color didn’t really pop when I applied it to my lids.

Pros:

the instructions were simple and the primer actually worked. I’ve told you before that I have greasy lids so I was surprised when my lids were still crease free hours later.

Since the color was my main issue, next time I might try the Bryant Park compact, which has brighter hues.

II love NYCs polish, but I’ve never tried the actual makeup.

I actually bought the same compact with different color palette (gray & purple), I wasn’t crazy about the colors either it didn’t go very well with my skin tone, but if figure I can blend with a few other colors I have and the price wasn’t bad. I’d try another palette as well.

Glad to see it’s not just me, I’m not the only one who wasn’t see keen on the colors. That’s a good idea, blending them with other colors!

Suppose you and three friends are jetting off together on a trip. Or it is time for a family vacation. Taking a home to airport shuttle van now costs about $50 for four people and that’s just one way. A cab may be even worse unless you live fairly close to the airport. You could find a long term car parking lot but they are charging anywhere from $10-$12 per day here in San Francisco. Hence a 10 day trip will set you back about the same as the shuttle and in addition you have to wrestle with the bags and kids, all at 6 am. But what’s the alternative?

Think about staying overnight at an airport hotel, leaving your car during your trip, enjoying a nice continental breakfast and leaving on a shuttle bus that pulls right up front. You can find 10-14 day Park and Ride (aka Stay, Park and Fly, Park and Jet, etc) packages from $79 to $149, depending upon the quality of the hotel. You can also find 7 to 31 days packages as well if need be, so shop around for what suits you best.
