Beauty Review – Wet n Wild vs. Dior

On a recent trip to Duane Reade, I just so happened to stumble over to the cosmetics aisle {I came for toilet paper and left with about 10 items, but oh well}. I noticed Wet n Wild had a slew of Wild Shine nail polish that was on sale for .50, normally priced at .99. The colors were pretty cute but the shade that really caught my eye was the Metallica. It was a similar hue to a Dior polish someone gave me a while ago.

{Wet n Wild Metallica and Dior Vernis Pure Diamonds}

I figured I’d do a side-by-side comparison of the brands with Wet n Wild’s .50 polish on my left hand and Dior’s $22 polish {which was a limited edition color} on the right. Both hands had a base, two coats of color and a top coat.

The first thing I noticed was the Dior polish was a lot thinner and more shimmery, while the Wet n Wild was thicker and had a more metallic, tinman like shade. After three days of wear {washing dishes, painting a mural for New York Cares Day, etc}, the polishes held up equally well. There were chips on both of my index fingers, which is where my polish typically begins to chip first. However, I noticed once the Wet n Wild started to chip, it didn’t stop. The chip just got bigger and bigger.

So if you love the look of Dior’s Pure Diamonds, Wet n Wild’s Wild Shine in Metallica is worth a try. You can save the 20 bucks for a thrift store visit!

I loved the polish so much that I went back and picked up another color. Sparkled may just be my new favorite shade.

      Thanks Kitty. I’ll definitely do more comparisons of the expensive vs. cheaper items. I refuse to pay 20 bucks for nail polish!

    […] shocked when I saw the $6 price tag. 6 bucks isn’t a lot, but definitely more than the $1 for Wet n Wild polish or $2 for Sinful Colors. And for two more bucks I could have just bough Essie. Eh, whatever. I […]
