3 Spring Trends You Can Thrift

how to wear black and white Last week I showed you the 5 wardrobe staples to buy at thrift stores, and this week it’s all about the trends. Every season the runways of New York, Paris and London dictate what’s in and what’s out for the coming months. And though everyone clamors for what’s “new,” some of these trends are simply revamped classics that are just having a moment. Like seriously, when is leather not on trend?

And this is a great thing if you’re in to {or want to get in to thrifting}. If you’re not willing to invest in a trend, the secondhand store is a great option, but also, since fashion is so cyclical, you’ll find many of the “new” trends at your Goodwill, Salvation Army or your thrift store of choice.

Check out three easy to find and easy to wear trends you can score from a thrift store.

Black & White:
If there’s one color combo that everyone’s going crazy for, it’s black and white. It was seen on countless runways, including Marc Jacobs {above}. And I love this look so much, I incorporated it in my last Today Show segment.

Finding a garment that has black and white should be fairly easy at a thrift store. Think of going for a printed pant or dress and definitely check the shirt section for fun button downs. This look can easily be chic or add a bit of edge.

how to wear leather, how to wear leather in spring Leather:
As I mentioned earlier, leather is another trend we’re seeing for spring. Jason Wu marched a cut out leather dress down the runway. We normally associate the material with colder months, but you can get in to leather this spring and even summer.

Your thrift store should at least have a few leather jackets you can wear on a brisk spring day and be sure to look for leather skirts or items with leather/faux leather details.

STRIPED BLAZER, TRENDY STRIPES Stripes:
Finally, stripes {and even polka dots!} are what’s haute. At first glance, this one may scare you a bit, but it doesn’t have to. Don’t worry, you can wear stripes without looking like a candy striper {ahem, the Tommy Hilfiger look above}.

A striped blouse will pair well with a pencil skirt or skinny jeans. And a striped blazer can work in your wardrobe just as well as a basic black one.

Remember, what’s new in fashion is always a throwback. So scoop them up for just a few bucks at your local thrift store. You’ll be on trend and remain on budget.

What trends are you getting in to for spring? Do you tend to thrift shop for trendy gear versus buying them new or splurging?

Great ideas! I’ve found many amazing striped pieces secondhand, and one of my all time favorite black and white striped shirts was a hand me down!

Oh I’m so glad to have found your blog! A girl after my own heart! Anyhow…I love the black and white trend, I’ve done this look for years, it’s just so classic and chic. I just began wearing stripes and adding pops of color, I think by far that has been my favorite trend.
